Clara has relocated to Rome with her emotionally distant husband, Felice, so that they can start a family. The pressures of traditional nuclear roles begin to cave in on them when their eldest child begins to experience gender dysphoria and leads the life he chooses as a young boy. As Clara grows to better understand her son, his journey inspires her to find freedom of her own.
